SERVICE TERMS

Japan Lost Item Rescue terms

These plain-language terms describe the current service. The version and confirmations accepted for each formal case should be retained with that case. Human legal review is recommended before publication.

1. Free feasibility consultation

The initial consultation is free. JLIR reviews the customer's description and likely location and may make limited preliminary inquiries to assess whether a lawful, practical recovery route exists. No payment is taken and no search result, response, release, recovery, or delivery is guaranteed.

2. Formal recovery service

If a case appears feasible and both parties agree to proceed, JLIR may search for the item, communicate with the relevant hotel, railway, airport, police office, store, venue, or other holder, complete the holder's authorized release procedure, receive or collect the item where permitted, compare it with the customer's description, and coordinate the Japan-side carrier handover.

The holder's rules always control. JLIR does not bypass identity checks, access controls, laws, carrier restrictions, or facility procedures.

3. Success fee

USD $70 base success fee plus a fixed Japan-side size surcharge (small ¥0; medium ¥590; large ¥1,720; extra-large ¥2,100). It is charged only after the item has been recovered and reasonably matched to the customer's description. The fixed size surcharge is small ¥0, medium ¥590, large ¥1,720, or extra-large ¥2,100. The operator confirms the applicable size band from the recovered item before issuing the payment link.

If the item is not recovered and reasonably matched, no JLIR success fee is due. A possible match reported by a holder is not by itself a recovered and matched item.

4. International shipping

The customer contracts with and pays DHL or another agreed carrier directly. International carriage, customs duties, taxes, and destination charges are separate. JLIR may print customer-provided documents, attach labels, arrange or attend the Japan-side pickup, and hand the recovered item to the carrier. JLIR does not receive the customer's carrier password or payment-card details and does not sell or mark up international carriage.

5. Authorization and identity documents

Release requirements differ by holder. JLIR first confirms the required authorization format and whether identity evidence is necessary. The customer must use the case-specific secure upload link and upload only the documents requested for that case. Passport images and authorization documents must not be sent through the ordinary consultation form or email.

JLIR uses those documents only for the relevant identity, authorization, release, recovery, and return procedure, subject to the Privacy Policy.

6. Exclusions

JLIR does not accept collection-only or shipping-only work, cash, lost passports, medicine, dangerous or prohibited goods, unlawful items, or property whose ownership cannot be reasonably verified. JLIR may also decline items that a holder cannot lawfully release or a carrier cannot lawfully transport.

7. Temporary custody and customer responsibility

Any custody by JLIR is incidental to verification and carrier handover, not a general storage service. The customer must provide accurate ownership, contact, customs, and pickup information, respond to time-sensitive requests, pay the success fee when due, and arrange an eligible international carrier service. If the customer does not respond, JLIR will follow applicable law and the original holder's rules; sensitive or regulated property is not automatically discarded.

8. Liability and third parties

Facility responses and carrier services are controlled by independent third parties. JLIR is not responsible for delay, refusal, loss, damage, customs action, or additional cost caused solely by a holder, carrier, authority, inaccurate customer information, or the customer's failure to act, except to the extent caused by JLIR's intentional misconduct or negligence and subject to applicable law. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Historical records

Earlier fixed-fee “Search Sprint” material was a product experiment and is not the current offer. A genuine historical case retains the terms and consent version accepted for that case, but old compatibility records do not create a new Search-Only offer.
